RIVER NORTH
Quartino: Italian, tapas style- except the kind of tapas portions that are totally filling. Affordable and crazy delicious- Quartino will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first place I visited before moving to Chicago, way back in 2011! Try my two favorite items: Cavatelli and Pizza Campania (both of which involve housemade ricotta and fresh tomatoes)
Siena Tavern: Would you believe me if I told you I crave the kale Caesar salad from this place, like, daily? Kale aside, Siena Tavern is a high end, modern Italian spot that has become a fixture of the River North dining scene since it opened in 2013. The food and atmosphere are straight 10's and you really can't go wrong when ordering. Just promise me you'll save room for the housemade gelato for dessert ?(pistachio if they have it!)
WEST LOOP
Bad Hunter: The fact that the team behind Bad Hunter made a veg-forward restaurant trendy is already enough to make me love it, and that the food lives up to the hype makes this spot a favorite. Note: veg-forward simply means the veggies are the star here, but this place is suitable for pescatarians and carnivores alike with fish and meat dishes. Try the butter dumplings and saffron farfalle. They get very busy (as many of these West Loop hot spots do) so be sure to make a reservation at least a couple of weeks in advanced.
WICKER PARK
Antique Taco: Whimsical taco spot on the west side that does non-traditional tacos. Think shrimp tacos topped with cauliflower elotes and crumbled kale chips. Extremely insta-worthy food at atmosphere. Try to go at off peak times as it gets crowded.
GREEK TOWN
Greek Islands: One of the most charming neighborhoods in Chicago is Greek Town. And while this strip of Halsted St. is filled with reliable spots to get your fix, Greek Islands is the best of the bunch. The restaurant is incredibly large, making it great for parties or big groups. It also means that you never have to wait that long for a table. The best menu strategy for me is to order a bunch of items off of the hot & cold appetizer list and feast with your friends. Try the Saganaki (Opa!), Tirokafteri, Lima Beans and fried zucchini.
